Our Story

Founded in 1996 by Steve Bailey, Amish Custom Kitchens began with a simple vision: to bring the unparalleled artistry of Central Illinois’ Amish craftsmen to the heart of Chicagoland. What started as a local design firm has grown into a premier destination for handmade cabinetry, fueled by a commitment to quality that mass-produced options simply can’t mirror.

Over the last three decades, our story has been defined by more than just cabinets; it’s built on a foundation of deep trust and genuine friendship with the Amish communities we partner with. Today, we continue to bridge the gap between old-world heritage and modern design, delivering kitchens that are as rich in history as they are in beauty.

Our Craft

In an era of impersonal assembly lines, Amish Custom Kitchens returns to the art of intentional living. Every cabinet we produce is strictly made-to-order, offering you an expansive palette of wood species, styles, and bespoke accessories to curate every fine detail of your dream space.

Our work is rooted in a heritage of excellence, handcrafted by fourth-generation Amish artisans who carry forward a legacy of precision and care. By blending these time-honored traditions with your modern vision, we create more than just storage—we deliver a custom-designed kitchen built to last a lifetime.

Frequently Asked Questions

I love the look and craftsmanship of Amish cabinets, but aren’t they just for high-end or designer homes?

Amish Custom Kitchens can provide you with the dream kitchen you’ve always wanted for a price comparable to warehouse home centers. We actually recommend you get a second bid from another store to help demonstrate the value Amish Custom Kitchens offer.

Will I have to wait a long time for my cabinets?

Delivery time varies depending upon the level of pending orders from all our clients. During our slower periods, around the holidays, delivery time can be as quick as 6 weeks. However, during the busy spring/summer/fall remodeling and construction seasons, delivery times can reach up to 13-20 weeks. Amish Custom Kitchens aims for a 8-12 week delivery period as optimal. We will help you plan accordingly to keep your project on schedule.

Is there a retainer fee for Amish Custom Kitchens to design our kitchen?

We provide your first design proposal free of charge. If you’d like to continue refining the design and making edits before placing a deposit, we require a retainer fee to cover additional drafting time. Our initial proposal is provided free of charge.  100% of this fee is credited toward your final project cost once you sign your contract.

Is there a warranty on Amish cabinets?

Yes. Like most cabinet manufacturers, the Amish formally provide a full 1-year warranty. However, if at any time, even years after delivery, you experience a problem, simply contact your Amish Custom Kitchens designer and we will resolve the problem, usually at no cost to you.

Does Amish Custom Kitchens have a showroom I can visit?

Yes, we have a showroom/office in Edison Park, Chicago. The showroom is not always open during business hours and appointments are required. Often, it is best for the first meeting to be at the showroom so we can go over styles, finishes and any accessories you wish to implement into your project.

Do the Amish really make these cabinets by hand, without any electricity?

All cabinets are handcrafted and built with extraordinary attention to detail, using hand tools and pneumatic-powered (high-pressure air) tools. Some required saws cannot be converted to pneumatic power, and in those specific instances, the Amish Church allows the faithful to make their own electricity to power an electric motor.
