Troubleshooting

Common issues and practical solutions to keep your cabinetry performing its best.

Not sure? Contact us — we're happy to help diagnose the issue

Most minor cabinet issues can be resolved quickly at home with the right approach. For each issue below we've outlined what you can try yourself and when it makes more sense to contact a professional or reach out to our team directly.

Doors not closing properly

Typically caused by hinge misalignment, warping, or settling after installation

Try this yourself

  • Check whether the hinge screws are loose and tighten them with a screwdriver
  • Use the hinge adjustment screws (most soft-close hinges have three adjustment points) to shift the door up, down, or sideways until it sits flush
  • Ensure nothing inside the cabinet is obstructing the door from closing fully
  • Check that the cabinet itself is still level — settling floors can cause doors to drift over time

Call a professional if...

  • The door frame itself appears twisted or warped and adjustment alone does not resolve it
  • A hinge has cracked or broken and needs to be replaced
  • Multiple doors across the kitchen are misaligned, which may indicate a structural or installation issue

Drawer alignment issues

Often caused by slides coming off track, loose mounting screws, or overloading

Try this yourself

  • Remove the drawer completely and re-seat it on the slides — it may have simply come off track
  • Check that the drawer slide mounting screws on both the cabinet and drawer are tight
  • Redistribute the contents of the drawer — overloading one side can cause the drawer to tilt and bind
  • Look for any debris or objects inside the slide channel that may be causing friction

Call a professional if...

  • The drawer slide mechanism is bent, cracked, or no longer glides smoothly even when empty
  • The drawer box itself is visibly out of square or a joint has separated
  • Re-seating the drawer does not resolve the issue after multiple attempts

Finish scratches or chips

Usually the result of impact, abrasive cleaning materials, or sharp contact with the surface

Try this yourself

  • For light surface scratches, apply a small amount of matching furniture touch-up marker or wax fill stick in the closest finish color
  • Buff very gently with a soft cloth in the direction of the grain after applying any touch-up product
  • For minor scuffs on painted finishes, a dab of matching touch-up paint applied with a fine brush can blend well
  • Contact us for guidance on the specific finish of your cabinetry before applying any product

Call a professional if...

  • The chip or scratch is deep enough to expose bare wood and is in a prominent location
  • The damage covers a large area or affects multiple cabinet faces
  • You are unsure of the finish type — using the wrong product can make the damage more visible
