Cleaning & Care
Simple habits that will keep your cabinetry looking beautiful for generations.
Overview
Your Amish-crafted cabinetry is built from solid hardwood and finished to last — but like all fine wood products, it benefits from regular, gentle care. Avoid harsh chemicals and excessive moisture, and your cabinets will maintain their beauty for decades.
Everyday Cleaning
For day-to-day cleaning, less is more. A soft touch and the right materials go a long way.
Wipe surfaces with a soft, lightly dampened microfiber cloth
Dry immediately after wiping — never leave moisture sitting on wood
Use a mild dish soap diluted in water for grease or sticky residue
Clean in the direction of the wood grain to avoid micro-scratches
Wipe up spills immediately, especially near seams and edges
Use abrasive sponges, steel wool, or scrubbing pads
Apply bleach, ammonia, or all-purpose spray cleaners directly to wood
Use a soaking-wet cloth — excess water can seep into seams and swell the wood
Steam clean or use pressurized water near cabinetry
Let grease or cooking residue build up over time — it becomes harder to remove
Products & Conditions to Avoid
Certain products and environmental conditions are the most common causes of premature wear on wood cabinetry.
Harsh chemical cleaners
Products containing bleach, ammonia, or strong solvents will strip the finish and dull the wood over time.
Silicone-based polishes
These can create buildup on the surface that is difficult to remove and may interfere with future refinishing.
Direct sunlight
Prolonged UV exposure can fade and discolor the finish. Use window treatments to limit direct sun on cabinetry where possible.
Extreme humidity or dryness
Wood expands and contracts with humidity swings. Keep indoor humidity between 35% and 55% to minimize movement and prevent cracking.
Heat and steam
Avoid placing heat-generating appliances directly against cabinet surfaces. Steam from dishwashers or cookware can damage adjacent finishes.
Sharp or abrasive contact
Avoid dragging items across cabinet surfaces. Use shelf liners inside cabinets to protect interiors from scratches and spills.
